PROJECT HISTORY

In April 2026 CTDOT advertised a sign replacement project along the I-91 from I-95 north to the Massachusetts border. It would include the placing of some new signs along with the renumbering of all exit signs to milepost based exit numbers. Work is to start in 2026, but the exit renumbering probably will not take place until 2027.

EXIT RENUMBERING SIGN PLANS

Instead of posting the plans for all the signs along the route, as has been done in the past, CTDOT only provided depictions of the signage that is to be replaced. For signage replaced in the past few years, only text descriptions were used. Curiously, the signs that were depicted were shown as they are. This meant for many signs the plans showed centered exit tabs, no longer up to current sign specifications. Whether this means the actual signs will be posted as depicted is currently unknown.

The sign plans are concentrated at the southern and northern ends of I-91 as well as in the Hartford area, though not for I-84 because that highway is due to be replaced in the future, though no moneys or construction date has been set. The plans go south to north:
